Lake: Prospect Lake (Colorado Springs)
DOW doing some moving
Post By: Springs Fisherman      Posted: 3/29/2012 6:45:42 PM     Points: 73
I was told by a few people i know that the DOW has been moving fish around from different lakes like Bonny and putting them in prospect and i was just wondering if that was true or if it was just a rumor. Can anyone clarify and let me know if it is true or not?

Put on a truck and sprinkled around the state! It was up to the district wildlife manager. Sure would be nice!

Most likely will be unpublished. Until someone post a picture of a massive transplanted fish I would call it a rumor. But, for an urban fishery, most likely no one will post it saying where they got it from.

Do you think an 8.2 lb walleye constitutes a "transplanted monster" or do you think its just a prospect miracle? Because a friend i know says he has a picture of him holding a fish that size from prospect that he caught a few days ago.

Actually they did transport fish there. Last fall. I was there.

There was a VW Bug that was transplanted in Prospect many years ago..I think it was caught about 5 years ago, but there are no pics to verify this..

here is an email from last fall.

We moved about 500 fish from Bonny to Prospect. The majority of those fish were crappie with a few smaller channel catfish, walleye and bluegill. I also moved about the same number and composition to Flagler reservoir.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me

Thanks for the info. So they just put in more pan fish and eyes and bigger trout?

When I took my Jon boat on Prospect last year, there were spots that marked 20ft... there is no doubt that good healthy 10lb plus walleye can be in there. A healthy trout and crappie population can fatten up some eyes real quick. In a healthy small body of water like that, that deep, they have ample opportunity to stay alive...

I did read an article about when they drained prospect lake several years ago, and the monster VW they found. Kind of a bummer, that would have been great structure to fish around...LoL

If you look back in history on this lake. Whiteboyrick posted pics of numerous monster eyes he has caught out of prospect. With one reaching probably 25 inches and pushing 6 lbs if I were to guess. All from shore. There are some monster eyes in there now. Unfortunately bonny drained.
