Dillon Fishing Help
Post By: milehi-Mayhem      Posted: 2/13/2012 4:50:33 PM     Points: 0
Looking at heading up to Dillon to hit the hard water and plan on making a simple trip right out on Dillon Bay, anyone have any luck out there. We will have some kids so I'm not against bait dunking. I'm open to any type of fish, if you have a uggestion throw it out there and I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for any insight you may have.

Dillon is a hard place to fish, at least for me it is, I would actually recommend going to officers gulch lake. I was there yesterday and caught a ton of fish. If you go west on I-70 its 2 minutes outside of Frisco and right before Copper Mountain. Wax worms work best. Good luck!

I personally have great luck on Dillion. The snake river inlet is the place with the most action. Most the fish you catch there are little but great fun for the kids. Use the smallest jig you have with a mealie or wax worm and you should have luck. I also have good luck by the frisco marina. Just walk off the boat ramp to 10 fow and drop 1/4 oz jig heads with white or pink tails. It doesnt matter what kind. I catch bigger fish there but fewer of them. Also by the high school there is a turnout right off highway 9. Park there and walk of the rock point and find anything under 20 fow. I catch some big browns there but not the quantity i do by the snake. I hope this helps if you have anymore questions id be glad to answer them. Good luck let us know how is goes.

I haven't been there but I am planning on going this weekend I have heard anything around 10 FOW is good anywhere on the lake due to relatively low fishing pressure

I havent been there in a long time but I used to fish Frisco bay. Walk straight out about 300 yards and be closer to the south side than the north. Look at the map it is 100 yards or so before the first cove on the south and the shore had some riprap on it (probally snow covered)There was a chanel for Ten mile creek 8-12 feet of water. Small jigs with waxie on it Marabo, pink or chartruse, little shiny tear drops.

Best of luck

We made it up to Dillon last friday and had some success! It was the first time the boys went ice fishing and they a great time. They caught 6 bows ranging from 12-15". Nothing of size but nice enough action to keep the little dudes engaged!

Location: Frisco inlet
Ice: 15+"
Depth: 12-15'
Ice: Clear
Snow: 1'
Lures: Small glow in the dark gigs tipped with meal and/or wax worms.

Gunner, it sounds like you had good fishing at Dillon and I think most people would say 12-15" rainbows are very nice fish. I fish Dillon once or twice a year and while I catch an occasional nice fish over 14" I catch 10 smaller ones before I get a nice one. I may have to try ice fishing there before the season is over.

Congrats its always great to see the kids catch fish. Dowdy is another place to get them into fish. the same area I described is good at ice off. I would bellyboat that south shore and use spoons, 5 of diamonds mostly and get into the browns and daredevils.
