Lake: Lake San Cristobal
San cristobal update?
Post By: ICE-DAWG      Posted: 2/4/2012 11:16:20 AM     Points: 206
Live in the SW and I have the laker itch since the Granby tournament. Any info on this lake would be appreciated as it still somewhat of a drive. Has anyone fished it recently or is there a closer place to Durango to chase down the Lakers?
Thanks!

We could use an update, so I hope you get a response.

As to other lakes, none that I know of off the top of my head. I'm sure you used the lake map and limited the search to show those waters we have activated with lake trout.

I have a place in South Fork and have fished San Cristobal a couple of years ago. It is a serious drive for you from Durango. I don't know of a real bait shop up there but call Sage and Timber gun shop and they can probably give you a report. 970 944 4111. You can drive on the lake so it is easy to get around but most of the fish are quite small. Once in a while someone will catch a big one and the little store in town will know about it. The ice can be very thick so an extension is in order for your auger. There are much better Lake Trout lakes closer to you in New Mexico if they have enough ice to let you on. The cost of the license could be offset by the gas and time to drive to Lake City. Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

fishinfezz,

What lakes in NM are you referring to? I tried looking on the NM Fish and Game website as well as several of the 'larger lakes' (eagles nest, heron) websites to get some info on the ice fishing down there but there is very little.

any additional would be great! The shorter the drive the better! haha
