Lathrop Pike

Had a great time camping with CC13 and his kiddos this weekend! It was hot, but beautiful at Lathrop.

I'd like to point out that if you want a quiet place to camp even when it's busy this is the place! The rangers made rounds about evey 30 minutes till long after dark and it sure made a difference.

Below is the only fish that my son caught, but it was a good one! Weighed in at 5'lbs even, but we forgot to measure the length. If you have been reading much of my posts you probably know what I caught him on (then handed the rod to the kiddo). Lets see if anyone can guess it :)

Thanks a lot for a great weekend with the kids, Coloradomrg! I am rarely the "camper," but we really had a good time this past weekend. In fact, the kids were having so much fun back at the campsite, we didn't even chase the cats into the night. For probably the first time in my life, I stopped to breathe and let my little man enjoy some time with another creative and passionate little guy and we had fun. So much fun in fact, we stayed 2 more nights and just returned.

Aside from a few short runs on the "big baits" that I like to throw (tiger, cats or pike), that was about it. A real big bass broke me off at the inlet area to Martin. I threw a worm out and when we checked the slack line it was wrapped around 3 logs. I got it free from 2 of them and saw it stuck to the third. I ran to get the net but it snapped before I could return. Oh, well... What an awesome park!

Last night, we threw our total of 3 trout in the fish basket and cooked trout, corn and some yams in foil on the fire. I cuddled with my kids under the stars of southern Colorado and they told me they had a "good time with daddy." Sometimes, I really have to pull my head out my a$$ and put the kids first. Too many long windy days at the Mile... As usual, my daughter took the biggest trout... :).

Thanks Coloradomrg! I will email you to figure out how to drop off the few items of yours that we still have. That was a heck of pike your son landed!

Peace!

CC13

Sounds like an awesome time. I was at Martin Friday night. We were fishing the south east corner of the lake. Where were you guys at?

CC13 - it was a pleasure! We should do it again some time!

Skunkd - we let the kids hit the kid pond first the. We fished the rocky point on the north side till the wind chased us back to camp. I've never seen that water so rough nor have I seen water spray over 10' in the air in CO lol I think it was about 4pm when we got back to camp and we dent make it back to the water till Sat morning. We caught the pike near the north end in a clearing in the cat tails.

The best part about the pike - 6 lb flouroclear (fluoro, mono hybrid), no leader and caught him with a kastmaster!!! :D
