Granby update
Post By: klamb      Posted: 6/14/2011 5:35:03 PM     Points: 366
Hi all,
Just a quick update on what we are releasing from the collection system of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project.

We are up to about 773 cfs from Granby Dam. About 343 cfs is coming over the spillway the 430 cfs is still being released through the dam.

But we have seen inflows to both Willow Creek and Shadow Mountain drop off in the last 24 hours. Willow Creek has dropped to about 954 cfs. Shadow Mountain is now releasing 2150 cfs.

I've attached a photo from yesterday when water started pushing over the spillway at Granby Dam. Also, here's 1100 cfs coming out of Willow Creek (even though that's now dropped off).

Feel free to call or e-mail with any related questions.

Best,
Kara

I'm sure this has been asked 1,000 times and I'm sorry that I don't know the answer but..........can you ride that spillway down? In a tube? Barrel perhaps? Thanks for your time!

Ha! Yeah, it does look like fun, but I think it would end up badly. :-) So, no. Not a recreation site, but any means.

Best,
Kara

hey k-lamb,is it legal to fish the colorado river directly below granby dam? not now(of course), but in general? about ten years ago me and a buddy took the trail down there. we seen a guy fly fishing, (who came up through the private property). he told us we were not allowed down there. my response was " then what are you doing down here?" he got mad and left. my buddy and i caught some nice bows and browns before the private property. about a year later my buddy told me he asked the ranger and was told it was legal. so, whats the deal?

I'm actually going up to Grand in about 3 weeks. Plan on hitting Granby while I'm out there as well. Pretty excited since I haven't fished either. Thinking about getting an inflatable kayak before then. I'm hoping it'll help on the lakes.

And I make no promises that I don't make a flume ride out of that spillway....check the news for me )
