Soooooo I am stuck in Meeker for a couple months for a job and I need a place to fish after work. Tried lake Avery last Wed but the water level was super high and the clarity was terrible. Tried everything I had and not even a sniff. Any suggestions or other nearby spots to try?? thanks

Nate

You have several options. Once the White river drops you will have lots of good fishing. The White is a personal favorite of mine. Down river is Rio Blanco Reservoir, nice little warm water fishery. Trappers (over an hour) is a great cutthroat fishery if its iced off and will be opening. There are several other lakes nearby, just not sure how the snow is.

You can always head to Rifle where you have Rifle Gap and Harvey Gap.

Good luck.

Skinny Fish lake is in that general area. It's not an after work stop and fish kind of place but if you have a free weekend day or want to do some camping up there it's a great place. Two small lakes with a stream running between them. Last time I was there a buddy of mine caught the biggest brookie I've ever seen. I don't remember the length but it weighed four pounds twelve ounces. It's a bit of a hike to get to but worth it for the scenery alone.

Tight Lines...zzz
