It was a blue cat, not a channel cat from what I heard. Still an amazing catch.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but JED is dealing with real life right now. That's why I've been away a lot lately too.

The dude used an asian carp that jumped into his boat for the bait that caught this incredible beast...

talk about things going your way................. john boat 500 bucks, fishing gear 100 bucks........... bait that jumps into your boat that helps you break the world and state recrod on catfish in one shot price less

I grew up in Illinois and went to college about 10 blocks from the Mississippi river. About 20 years ago there were very few large cats being caught in the Mississippi river system because of years of commercial fishing over harvesting. It is really great to see how well the fishery has recovered and the number of giant catfish that have been caught there in the last several years. If I remember right the record for blue and flathead cats were around 100 pounds just 15 years ago now they are both around 125. It will be cool to see what the fishery can produce in the next couple of decades. In the 1800s there were reports of blues being caught by commercial fishermen close to 200 lbs. That was an awesome catch and hopefully a good sign of things to come.

I also hope that the Asian Carp do not ruin all of this progress with the fishery.

That's awesome! Dude's life just changed

Don't you get sponsorships etc $$ for making a catch like that, even a blue cat??

There was an article I read today about this, the guy who caught the last record in 2005 tried to get rich lol he said he LOST a ton of money on it.

Great catch, both fisherman believe it will be broken again before too long. The BIG cat world has really made an effort towards CPR lately from what I gather. Good to see positive results!

And the guy had a slooow night and was about to head back home when he hooked this behomth.
