First Carp on the Fly!
Post By: BluefoXXX      Posted: 6/1/2010 3:04:08 PM     Points: 95
Got my first few carp on the flay at stearns. Caught them on an olive green crawdad pattern and it took quite some maneuvering to get them out of the cattails and to a place where I could land them. After the first carp I was shaking in my knees and now I think I'm addicted. I guess Stearns can be more fun than I realized! O and I need to put more line on my rod almost ran out a couple times lol.

go into the water at Stearns.

ya definately want to respect the no wading but had to do some rock hoppin to get to that fish. If the water was 3 inches lower there wouldn't even be water there but ya! no wading!

All I ever even fish for there is grass carp. I've caught a couple dink bass at th lake and there are crappie, gills and cats. Unfortunately the lake seems o be on the decline and even though I constantly hear stories, I just don't believe there are any tigers left due to
las stocking and lifespan of the fish.

Gotta get me some of those grass-carp. Was there a month ago and accidentally foul-hooked a small one but had no clue it was a grass carp until I came home and got on the internet to figure out what they are eating in there to get so feisty and pretty.....felt like a total idiot when I saw grass-carp on the lake-page.

Saw one shadow mosey by throught the muddy waters that HAD to be a monster (40+") grass-carp. FIgured it was a tiger but after reading up it makes more sense that it was a grass-carp.

fast forester, I have never tried carp but it sounds interesting. I heard it can be good when cooked properly. Bet that dodger game was fun!

Tage, ya I'm wondering how to catch those grass carp... Some are monsters!!!

Is there a good supply of commons in there as well, or mostly just grassies?

good job and great name

thanks cassmaster lol.

Vanish: ya I was there during the spawn and the commons were everywhere! I've seen your posts about viele and good job to you. Today I hit up four places in the denver mettro area and brought in 12 fish total. 3 of which were 28 inches and one that is a possible MA but I left my measuring tape in the car for that one, one thing I know for sure he was as at least as long as the 28s and a hell of a lot fatter. If your up to it sometime we should collaborate and pound some carp.

vanish here are some pics from the other day. Still looking for the MA but look how that one dwarfs my reel. Caught them on my 8 wt.

Nice b-fxx, that has to be huge fun on the fly rod. If they aren't MA carp they definitely are FA (Fat A**) carp!

If either of you guys are looking for somebody to get together for fly-carpin I am very interested. I am going to be in Boca-Grande florida until the 20th (wish me luck for snook and maybe the miracle Tarpon) but I would love to meet up sometime. Big soda lake has been my stomping ground for the last couple of weeks.

sounds good to me. We will have to all exchange tips and tricks sometime. And lucky Tage! good luck and hope you get that tarpon... Only time I had the opportunity to flats fish was when I was 10 and as I was pulling my hook out of the water a tarpon jumped out and almost took it. That was the closest I have ever gotten to one...
