Hey guys there is an old post by nvrskunked called suckerfish from last year around this time. He talks about catching a bunch of suckerfish. He says where his location was but I don't really understand where he is. Can someone help me out here and take a look and see if they know where it is. Thanks a ton

So back to the question, RANGLER have you ever caught any suckers near Chatfield? I managed a few by accident at a pond near my house. I didnt keep them because I didn't know about using them for bait until later in the season. I'm sure they're still in there. But I haven't fished Chatfield area much...

Yea Telecaster
I have Caught many a suckers at the South Platte, and I ,like you, didn't realize the potential for Ice fishing them tell now..And now is a very good time for catching them and storing them for next winter... they will keep but if you vacuum pack they will last longer if you don't have one I do...We should go get some soon...
The place to get them is in the river right now they are eating the rainbow eggs and such, they like bugs, so a small fly/bug of some kind would work on the bottom I'm sure or a worm...
But watch we will go and catch some other kinds of fish something were not fishing for.lol ....Like a turtle!
I know of a place right now that may be good for them, I scouted it out last Wensday I think with PBS and His Buddy, Dead suckers on the shore but I'm sure there are more..They will be in spawn about now till june...
We didnt fish that location...

RANGLER, let me know when you are going out. After I get back from Texas(Bass Fishing), I'll take you to a favorite spot of mine. It should be getting hot around then...

So fishangler what areas of the platte do you suggest giving a shot. I was there today about a mile south of the reservoir in the river and didn't get anything.

Alright thanks that helps a ton. And is the lake your talking about that South Platte Park reservoir?
Reply by: FISHRANGLER      Posted: 3/22/2010 12:06:47 PM     Points: 4409
No Nickname You cannot fish that lake "South platte Res"

This is for "sucker fish" so no secrets given up here! Sorry, You will have to go out and see for yourself were the fish are...I have many years of fishing there, I wont do X marks the spot!
One of them, the map at the parking lot will guide you..the name of the lake starts with "Red" something? to small to read it..I think its readtail? Its the one to the right or NE of Eagle watch. There are suckers in all of them and the river!

Wow I must fail at catching suckers or something, today went from 5-7:30 p.m. and started by the parking lot and just walked north, I threw worms in areas I thought were deep. Nothing the entire time. I don't really understand what I'm doing wrong...ugh kinda frustrating but I guess thats how fishing can be. Any other tips?
