Lake: Jackson Lake
Skunked (almost)

My wife and I fished from the banks of the inlet Fri. afternoon for trout and wiper with no bites. Sat we tried the dam but nobody there had any luck, either. Except for a snagged carp in the inlet we were skunked. Water clarity was very good with a green tint.

The only excitement was, unfortunately, from a capsized boat near the north boat ramp which had 2 adults and 2 kids aboard. One kid and a man were airlifted out. Winds were high Sat afternoon but the boat was a sizeable fiberglass tri-hull . Nobody actually saw what happened..

I was on Jackson Saturday from daybreak to noon when the winds pushed me off. I was fishing from a yellow kayak. I was surprised as to how clear the water was and still on the cool side, 48-50. I could see the bottom in 8-10 ft of water. Makes it rough to get close to fish, especially in the shallows.

The only thing I caught was three carp scales. I'd like to have seen the fish that one of the scales that I caught, really don't have a good estimate of how big the carp would go, but the scale weighted in at 2 oz.

The capsized boat you refered to was my brother-in-law's. Thankfully, everybody is ok! Mark (the adult who was airlifted) was treated for hypthermia and released that night. His son Tommy had to be resusitated on scene, he has since made a miraculous recovery and is already home. He appears to have no lasting effects from the trauma except that he never wants to be on a boat again!

Say, my wife and I were sure glad to hear that both of your family members recovered from their ordeal. The boy was resuscitated! That had to be traumatic, so it's no wonder he's leary of boats now. Any idea of what led to the overturn in the wind?

you know...both my brother in laws have gone over it a thousand times in their minds and niether can say for sure. certainly the wind was the biggest factor, but that size boat it shouldnt have been a problem. they did have some extra wieght in the back...fuel, batteries and such but i think it was a combination of several things and was just really bad luck. they are all ok though and thats the only thing that matters.
