Hello everyone, my name is Jim Strawbridge. I live in Frederick Colorado and have lived here in Colorado now for 15yrs. I grew up in upstate New York as an only child. Kind of boring, you say, being an only child! Well not really, as an only child I got to do a lot more things than some of my friends with larger families, like fishing every weekend with my grandfather or anyone else who would take me out.
My first memory of “bass” fishing was when my grandfather use to take me out “bluegill” fishing, great times. We used to go to the same spot, in the same row boat, and fish for the same fish all the time. I guess my grandpa loved his bluegill fishing. I miss him and the times we used to share (sorry…swallow hard….had a lump in my throat). After fishing one day and on the way in we passed these Lilly pads, and I asked “grandpa, can we fish here for a minute”? His response,”There are no bluegill in here. All the bass will eat them”. So with a smile on his face he rigged me up a worm and a bobber then told me to cast in the little opening around all the Lilly pads and watch the bobber. Well that lasted about two seconds and under the water it went. I set the hook and reeled in a 17” bass. His eyes lit up and he smiled from ear to ear. To this day, I don’t know who was happier, him or me! To see the joy I got from catching that fish and making him smile was what got me “hooked” on bass fishing. The rest is history.
As far as what else I like to do, I have a small construction company that I have owned for 20 years, I like to golf, camp, and build fishing rods. I’m the owner of Galaxy Custom Rods and Supplies, and have a beautiful wife “Sharon” of 24 yrs. We have no kids or pets and she loves to fish as well. As a matter of fact she and I run a bass fishing club here in Colorado called “The Colorado Couples Series”. I also fish the Bassmaster Central Opens and local club events as well. Fishing is a great way for me to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. There is always an open invite to anyone who wants to fish with me, and enjoy the sport of fishing. I do own a boat, but I really like to shore fish. So grab a rod and come fish with me,”my pond or yours”. That’s a little about me and the sport I love. My final thoughts are this, “I don’t claim to know everything about bass fishing, nor will I ever. But I do love the sport and would love to share some of my experiences and stories with you”. Sharon and I hope to see you on the water! Until then, be safe, and cherish the little things in life, sometimes those are the most important.
