Tom grew up in southwest Michigan catching panfish out of small lakes with his dad, happy to occasionally catch a bass. After graduating from Michigan State University and spending a year in Russia teaching English, he became an educator in Chicago. In the summer of 2012, he moved to Loveland, started teaching computer science and programming, and took up fishing again. He now fishes every chance he gets. Spin rod, fly rod, or ice rod, shore, boat, or float tube, Tom loves fishing. He also ties flies and golfs (both balls and discs), but mostly he focuses on edtech and goes fishing.
