Jonathan Hill Jon grew up in the country outside of Buffalo, NY and started fishing at an early age with his uncle and cousins on Lake Erie. After moving to North Carolina, he developed a knack for bass fishing. A good friend gave Jon his first fly fishing setup when he moved to Colorado nine years ago and he has been fly fishing ever since.
Jon's passion for the outdoors stems from his childhood in the country outside of Buffalo, NY, where he was able to experience skiing, camping, four-wheeling, horseback riding, and many other activities city-dwellers don't have access to.
But it wasn't until his teens, when his family relocated to North Carolina, that he discovered his passion for fishing. Most weekends were spent on his friend's bass boat, in and around the Carolinas, catching largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish.
After a few trips to Colorado to snowboard and visit friends, he knew that at some point in his life he would make Denver his home. He was finally able to do that in 2003. Using a fly rod his friend gave him, he started fly fishing the Gold Medal rivers all over the state. When the rivers got too crowded, he found yet another passion - high altitude lake and small stream fishing.
Since these locations are typically off the radar for the majority of fly fishermen, they provide a change of scenery and a fresh perspective, which fuels his passion for fishing.
The past couple of years Jon has been fortunate enough to share his experiences by writing for American Angler, The Drake, and Deuter Backpacks, along with creating his own videos and blogs.
When not hiking, camping, snowboarding, or fly fishing in the high country, Jon can be found wading the waters a few minutes from his home in Littleton, CO and spending time with his wife Karen and son Brennon.
