January 5, 2013Grand Slam Ice Fish Tournament - 7:0 am Tournament is team event and each team consists of two anglers, one of whom must be at least 18 years old. Entry fees are $80.00 per event. The contest starts at 7 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. In addition to the thousands of dollars to be won, there are numerous door prizes provided by participating sponsors that are given away at each contest's award ceremony. National tackle manufacturer sponsors include Berkeley, Shakespeare, Trilene and Mitchell along with a host of local participating sponsors. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Lake George Charter School. A valid daily or annual Colorado State Park pass is required for all vehicles entering the park. Teams of two will start at Elk Creek Marina, and all species of fish taken from Blue Mesa Lake and are at least 12 inches in size may be entered into the competition except suckers, lake trout (Mackinaw), perch and northern pike. Our club will be having it's first All Day Fish and BBQ on May 11th at Horsetooth Reservoir. There should be people there from sun-up 'till sun-down and the BBQ will start at about 1:00 p.m. (after Yakin5280's kayak fishing clinic). I propose that we fish the north end in the morning and the south end in the afternoon. That way people can have a try at the whole lake (it's seven miles long north to south). I plan on being there all day long. I have a white Ford F-250 that has a sleeping pad screwed to the top of the tailgate (to protect my boat, of course!), if you want to meet up before morning launch at the north end. I'll be in an olive colored pro angler kayak. If you get there later...no problem!...just come on in. We'll see you out on the lake or in one of the many coves soon enough. At about noon we'll take out and drive everything down to the south end boat ramp area. Bring your choice of something to BBQ. I'll bring the charcoal and will go get it started around noon thrity-ish. We'll have BBQ down at the other end of the lake (south boat ramp area). There are a few really nice picnic spots just north of the 2nd boat ramp down at that end (you'll see...the point furthest away from the campground at that end). And, the term "Kayak" in our club means anything hand-launched. Schedule Dawn-ish: Meet at north boat ramp and fish north end of lake and coves. Noon-ish: Make way down to south ramp area and get charcoal burning. 1:00: Grill!!! 2-3ish: Put in and fish southern part of lake 'till whenever (probably dark or later). July 20, 2013dge to Bridge Fly Fishing Tournament, July 20 - 8:0 am The newest fishing event on the schedule is the second annual Gene Taylor’s Bridge to Bridge Fly Fishing Tournament on July 20. Teams of two launch boats into the Gunnison River at North Bridge by Garlic Mike’s in Gunnison and catch and release fish between there and Gunnison Whitewater Park. The total length of all fish caught and released will decide and crown the winners of the tournament. Early registration is $80 per team at Gene Taylor’s Sporting Goods in Gunnison. Registration the day of the event is from 8 - 8:45 a.m. at Garlic Mike’s and costs $90 per team. There is a cash purse and several prizes. Proceeds benefit the Gunnison River Festival.
