Waiter, there's a fly in my beer! (Part Trois) - 6:0 pm
We had a great turnout at our second event at the Big Beaver Brewing company on 12/27/2011, better than our first night by far. The word is getting out that this is a fun and productive way to spend your second and fourth Tuesday, at least for the next few winter fly tying months, and we continue to enjoy the latest libations from Big Beaver. Last time BBBC unleashed a Scottish Ale that was incredible in my book. Local tying talent including Marty Staab, Rick Takahashi and Kaleb VanWagner tied alongside several others and all had a great time, again. And the beer was mighty fine, again. The Big Beaver Brewing Company (BBBC) is located four blocks east of the Elkhorn Fly Shop. The address for the brewery is 2707 W. Eisenhower Blvd, Unit nine (around the back of the building and they now have access through the front of the building). Bring your fly tying vise and materials and tie a few flies, or just drop by and hang out (and bring a friend or two if you'd like). The atmosphere at BBBC is perfect for this type activity. You don't have to RSVP, but it would be appreciated. The facility there can handle many tyers. And I'm quite certain they have enough beer.

Vise Squad Is On! Fly tying and social club. - 6:0 pm
This unpleasant turn in the weather has no doubt gotten us thinking about returning to the vise for the winter so dust off the vise and the tools, take an inventory of what you need to replenish for next year, and let's get back at it. Marty says the theme will be "Winter Midges." So make a list, check it twice, and bring your goodies to the Beaver. We should have a tremendous turnout this Tuesday. Fishing remains strong for this time of year on the Big-T. Anglers are still reporting better than expected results, if you can stand the cold. If you want to learn more about which midge patterns have been producing stop by and hear what everyone has to share. If you haven't yet attended a Vise Squad evening, our "Vise Squad" is an informal gathering to meet with local fly tyers and set up your vise for an hour or three and have a beer or two, or just visit and compare tying and fishing information. Beginners are most welcome and it's a fact that our members are always happy to share techniques and demonstrate patterns and tips. Big Beaver Brewing Company is located at 2707 W. Eisenhower Blvd, exactly four blocks east of the fly shop. Make sure and thank Peter and his staff for making their facilities available for this event. If you have a clamp style vise, remember to bring some padding to protect the tables, and thanks again for cleaning up after each other. Rules: There are none. Saturday Fly Tying- "Mark McMillan - Patterns for - 10:0 am
To many of us who have known and watched him magically create some of the most innovative patterns, he is known simply as "Dumpster Diver" or "The Junk Man". Mark will demonstrate some truly creative patterns from materials he has collected the Dollar Store as well as patterns he has used as a long time guide to Rocky Mountain National Park. His work appears in Steve Schwitzer's Guide to Fly Fishing Rocky Mountain National Park, Modern Midges and he was recently featured in Fly Fishing the Southwest. He has been a demonstration tier for the Denver Fly Fishing Show, Internation Sportsmen Exhibition and the West Denver Fly tying Cinic as well as other fly shops along the Front Range. If you know anyone who may be interested in attending these amazing and productive clinics, feel free to forward this message. If you haven't been in the shop in a while you need to see how much we continue to add to our tying materials. We have added all sorts of new tying materials as well as many new brands of consumables and terminal gear. Also, we've added a sweet 50" monitor to show what is being done right at the jaws of the vise. We can accomodate up to 40 people comfortably this season. Get ready for some excellent instruction and don't forget your coffee mug. Looking forward to seeing you Saturday! Jason is widely known for his talent tying deer hair flies and is among the best ever, but this Saturday he wants to show off some of his other skills at tying some less complicated flies.
