Yep, Matt can still fish
by: David Coulson 5/26/2011
After much prodding I managed to talk Matt, yes, our very own Fish Explorer founder, into taking his boat out for an evening’s fishing. I figured it might be prudent to start shaking things out, as the Horsetooth Full Moon open is only a few weeks off. Time flies. We launched at Satanka Bay, and thanks to Matt’s good winterizing job, the motor fired right up and everything checked out, leaving us with nothing to do but fish. As this was his first outing of the year, sad but true as the site dominates his time, he figured he might be a tad rusty. I must say wish that I was so rusty, and he’ll definitely be a force to contend with once he gets polished up. Simply he saw two fish to my one all evening long. The only suggestion I had for him was he might concentrate on the “big’ns” a bit more tournament night as most weight counts. Yeah, I was a tad green. While we didn’t knock’em dead, we managed fish consistently all evening and easily caught enough fish to have weighted five fish in the 14-16 inch class; maybe not enough to be a winner, but a respectable showing. We didn’t find a consistent pattern, rather a fish or two most everywhere we cast a line. So if you head up to the ‘tooth and don’t find fish right off, keep moving and changing up because they are there. And frankly over the last week I haven’t found anywhere without a fish or two. After last night, it was obvious to me that Matt’s earlier comments about being concerned about holding up his end are misplaced. Rather the opposite, I’m wondering if I’ll be able to hold up mine!

Good luck, guys! aerofanbig, CO 5/26/2011 1:59:06 PM Tell the truth Dave, you were just tired of kicking yourself around the lakes and wanted to fish the easy way LOL jk David Coulson (Flyrodn), CO 5/26/2011 2:25:30 PM Could be on the tired end, given I now count decades, not years (still have enough digits for that). However, the legs were more tired after an evening of standing/balancing on a boat than a afternoon of kicking. Guess I do better when this fat ___ is planted in a seat. FISHRANGLER, CO 5/26/2011 2:43:26 PM You guys know your stuff, I'm sure you will do very well and maybe even win.Now that would be something to see. senatordan, CO 5/26/2011 2:58:24 PM Color me jealous. We've been in post-spawn here in Charlotte for what seems like forever! HeavyC, CO 5/26/2011 9:13:24 PM I call BS! ...that is an old picture! That Matt guy never gets out and fishes anymore! LOL! Better start practicing at nights! Things sure change once the sun goes down!

Fishful Thinker, CO 5/28/2011 9:35:52 AM Bringin' a knife to as gun fight, eh Dave? Good luck to ya'll...I'd love to see you guys put it on the traditional bassers. CL HeavyC, CO 5/28/2011 9:38:20 AM You fishing it again Chad? Or gonna MC and do another show?
HC Out! Fishful Thinker, CO 5/28/2011 1:16:40 PM Emcee and film again...this media stuff is getting in the way of my fishing! CL David Coulson (Flyrodn), CO 5/28/2011 10:13:24 PM Not known for my smarts when it comes to fishing competitions, so we could well be out gunned, but that's have the fun for me. Besides with Chad on the side lines I figure our odds increased a bit. But I know the field will still be tough and that's alright. gatorjoe, CO 5/28/2011 11:20:43 PM Funny. I never knew Matt fished. Everytime I see him he tells me how he never manages to get out anymore. Congrats. Wish I could fish the Full Moon Open. I hope you two and your "silly sticks" make a good showing for the rest of us. Fishful Thinker, CO 5/29/2011 8:38:13 AM Thanks, but given my record of no better than 3rd in the FMO, you have lots of people to worry more about than if I was fishing it, Dave! I bet you and Matt do pretty well...CL
