Pictures from Vets on Ice
by: David Coulson 2/26/2014
Last Sunday I had the privilege and honor of covering Vets on Ice for the Denver Post. The article came out in today’s paper.
When I was asked to do a piece for the paper, I was excited about the prospect of covering the event, especially since it hadn’t been picked up prior. Given the excellent background resources available to me from Shawn’s blogs and the Patriot Anglers website I figured it would be an easy write. As I sat down Sunday evening I found it to be far more difficult than expected, due to having a lot of material and very little space to cram it all into. As a result, I mentioned the organizers and supporters, and made the story about the participants. Even then I was only able to present a small portion of the material I had to work with.
I had similar issues paring down the 140 images taken Sunday to a few to submit to the post in support of the article. I’m writing this to give a little more recognition to all those involved.
First off, kudos to Shawn for the outstanding organization and leadership he provided for the event. Second, the volunteers were many, and I only wish I had all their names to list here. I don’t. Thus, I won’t list any, so as not to insult anyone. But I personally thank each and every one of you for your efforts. From my conversations with folks, I know they were greatly appreciated. Third, all those groups and contributors are listed here. I think I got them all, if not, my apologies. Please note this list was sent to the Post, but not published.
I spent the morning visiting with as many of the veterans as I could, I may have missed some, for which I’m sorry. I greatly enjoyed learning more about everyone. What mildly surprised me was how many military couples were present, where both are or were in the service. If I didn’t do so on the ice, I would like to personally thank each and every one of your for your service to your country and for taking time to visit with me.
To all involved, from my perspective, the Second Annual Vets on Ice, was an unqualified success.

I see a lot of smiles in those photos. Good article Dave. I think the focus on the participants was the right angle.
