The ISE starts tomorrow, I'm going, are you?

The Denver International Sportsmanís Exposition (ISE) starts tomorrow, January 16th at the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street. Iím not sure how many consecutive years I made the show, but I wonít be missing it this year; the streak stays alive.
The last couple of years Iíve been invited to spend a couple hours tying at the fly tying booth, sponsored by Umpqua. This year the booth is located at just past fly casting pond A as you head to toward the food court. Iím schedule to tie with others Friday from 6 to 8. Iíll likely leave my materials and tools at the booth should they need a tier on Saturday. The booth number is 2521.
This year the emphasis at the booth is introducing folks to fly tying, especially youth. I did a bit of this last year, and Iím excited that they are emphasizing getting people involved. So if you have an interest in tying, or know someone thinking about it bring them by. If Iím there, Iíll guarantee itíll be a hands-on experience. Consequently, Iíll be demonstrating the peacock woolly bugger, clousers, and a few basic nymph patterns. But Iíll also be happy to work with you on most any pattern, provided I have the necessary materials on hand.
Most of Saturday, Iíll be wandering the show. So if youíre planning on attending and see me, stop me and say hi. Iíd love to visit and itíll slow my wandering ensuring I spend the day. In the past some of my favorite haunts, outside the beer cart, include Arctic Lodges, furriers, book booths, shops with tying materials, any number of the demonstrations, and most of all, visiting with my fellow anglers.
I hope to see you there Friday or Saturday.

My fishing buddy and I are going to work the kids fish tank and then wander around the show for an hour or two. This year we are taking our own lunches. Better lunch, less cost. Say Hi to the Cutthroat TU guys at the Umpqua booth.

I'll be at the ISE open-close all four days. Hey Dave, I need some custom Clousers tied...know anyone with the skills for that? wink, wink...

I almost always visit all the club visits and try to talk them into sending me their newsletters and allowing us to reprint the news items, Cutthroat, Gunnison River, and Rocky Mtn chapters have. I love local content. I might know someone who knows how to tie Clousers, first name is Bob I think! Chad, I'll chase you down and we'll talk.

I actually have a couple of Clousers that Bob tied for me at the AFTA show a few years back. Think I'll hang on to them for posterity!

Now there's a trade I'd love to make! I'd hang onto them also. In fact I'd likely mount them in a shadow box and hang them over my bench.
I've had the privilege of meeting Bob, an honor to say the least.

Every year, I wonder why I bother to go afterwards - but I go just the same. It's become a tradition of sorts for a small group of friends. Watching guys play with their yarn and feathers is the highlight of the show no doubt. I'll be there Friday evening.

I'm going Thursday too! Hope I can find you down there.
I'm really curious why doesn't Fish Explorer have a booth this year? Have they given up on Colorado membership?
opencage, CO 1/16/2014 6:30:56 AM
Just didn't get one this year. And no, Colorado is our flagship state and we value our members here above darn near all else. Though I know Matt and Dave are excited to be building the site in other states as well. See ya Saturday.

Having a booth is expensive and a lot of work eating up a lot of resources. The exposure was good, but after a lot of thought, we realized we weren't getting the returns we needed. We've done better using those resources to grow the site in other ways, and it has been paying off. We still support the show in principle and as we move into the future, a booth may once again make sense.

I'm hanging around there too. Every day except Sunday. Look for me around St. Croix, Eagle Claw or the tank.
