For a number of years, at least six, I’ve been helping Centennial Bass Club raise monies for Catch a Special Thrill (C.A.S.T.). The purpose is “To provide disabled and disadvantaged children the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience fishing on the water.” For the last 18 years, the Centennial Bass Club, Bureau of Reclamation, Larimer County Natural Resources, with the help of many others, host C.A.S.T. in June at Horsetooth Reservoir.
Here’s how it works. The Bass Pro Store allows non-profit organization volunteers to work alongside the check-out clerks and bag merchandize. In exchange the baggers may have a tip jar at the counter. As time permits and to the extent it doesn’t slow or interfere with business, the baggers/sackers may promote their cause and solicit tips, in this case for C.A.S.T.
The following is Bill Wilson’s call for help:
“Centennial Bass Club and friends are conducting a Bagging For Tips event at the Denver Bass Pro Shop. We actually work in the cashier area and bag items people purchase for the opportunity to collect tips. This money is in turn used to buy lures to fill the disabled/disadvantaged kids' tackle boxes when the actual Catch A Special Thrill day of fishing happens in June at Horsetooth Reservoir. We also buy some special gifts for each of the 40 kids and they also receive hats, tee shirts, rods and reels, and other goodies! Won't you please consider helping us gather tips, carts, or hangers the weekend of December 21, 22nd. I have shifts available Saturday and Sunday morning and evening, and you can let me know when you could help. We do receive a nice discount the day you work, as well as a nice discounted menu in the Islamorada Restaurant! We dress casually, something festive is great like a Santa hat, and we pass out cookies and wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Please join us for a fun time at a great store for a great cause!”
I can assure you that I, along with Sue, Jennifer, and Cody will be there Sunday afternoon. It’s a bit of work, but it’s also fun. While we’re working to support a great cause, we also get to visit with our fellow sportsman, which makes for a great day. Plus, as if we needed one, it’s a great excuse to visit Bass Pro.
If you’re interested in volunteering please contact Bill Wilson at 970-218-2895, or shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will forward your interest on.
If you can’t volunteer, swing by the store that weekend and say Hi! Even better toss some change in the tip jars.
