New Blogger, Sort of, as John's Well Known
by: David Coulson 10/23/2013
Every now and then I do something that is totally right! And yes, Iím tooting my own horn, as bringing John on board as a blogger was definitely the right thing to do.
Over this last years Iíve taken great enjoyment in reading the forum posts of a specific member. Oh, I enjoy reading many of the posts and comments of many, and some not so much, but in this case as I read his posts, I felt many of them should be blogs. So I shot him an email back in June asking if heís be interested in blogging and maybe writing an article or two.
That was back in June. Why did it take so long to get him online? Well, that was entirely my fault. I failed to follow up in a timely manner. To my annoyance, as I was cleaning up my email account I realized my error and immediately contacted John Finney, better known as JOHN_COSprings. To my delight John was still interested, this time I didnít tarry in completing my duties.
I had the privilege of meeting John this year at the OG/YG contest held at Boyd, and the only thing Iím truly thankful for is that we limited the contest to one fish of each species. Had that not been the case thereís little doubt in my mind that John would have swamped us all with carp, a fish I sorely wanted to catch that day. While I tried, I was unsuccessful, whereas John did catch carp.
Over the years Iíve fished for a lot of species, and had a degree of success with most, including the carp. For those who feel carp isnít a worthy quarry, I challenge you to try and catch a limit of them, where a limit is the number of fish youíre allowed to keep of any other species, say four trout, in the same amount of time. Iíll truly be impressed if youíre able to. I frequently catch four to six trout in an hour. Iím lucky to catch four to six carp in a day. Yep, carp are tough and I tip my hat to those with the skill to pursue them successfully on a regular basis. Which is why Iím so delighted to welcome John Finney, aka JOHN_COSprings as our newest blogger.
Please help me welcome John as our newest blogger.

My thanks to Dave for his kind words and to the FXR community for giving me this opportunity. Have no fear Dave, if I had attempted to use a fly rod that day at Body, I would likely have put out my own eye, or those of nearby anglers around me!
I shall certainly be continuing with posting my stories, blogs and hopefully soon some articles, related to my passion of carp fishing. I have still some stock footage from Bear Lake Utah to work on. I also have some film from Pikeview on the day I landed a nice pair of 20's. Now I just need to acquire a replacement camcorder as the previous one literally fell to pieces... they sure don't make them like they used to !

Welcome John! I am looking forward to your blogs. I've caught a few carp on a fly rod and have to say they are hell on wheels and a total hoot to catch. I could sure use some tips on how to catch more of them.

With a surname like "Finney", of course he should be blogging on fish! Welcome John! CL

John has wonderful writing skills. I grew up in France so I can understand (even though I don't share) his passion for carps. I have been eying a quality carp rod... for wiper fishing.

@FXA0, you know you want that carp rod ! it's calling to you ! of course, you can use it for wiper, that is a great excuse to get your mittens on it ...
