Since main-stream media has us all bogged down with bombings, loss of civilians’ rights, international political instability, and any other negativity they can find, I’ve decided to put four things I’m happy about right now into words for no apparent reason…
In the belief that life is better with a dog, I got one. Another one really…I had a Lab for 15 years but his time ran out last year and I finally moved forward. I didn’t get a puppy though, rather choosing to adopt a college dropout so to speak…yep the new Labrador Retriever is a seeing eye dog school flunky. Apparently he had a bit too much, umm, let’s just say zest for life to be a service dog. Five weeks into our relationship, Ranger D as I’ve come to call him, fits right in around here. I for one applaud his enthusiasm on this fine day.
We got snow! And not one of those pansy pseudo storms…nope, a sure ‘nuff blizzard complete with snow totals measured in feet and containing enough water to actually help our drought situation. Some folks are whining about travel, shoveling, and such…sorry gang, but I’m all for it! Let it snow a few more feet please…the fish dig it.
It’s finally time for another guiding season to kick off. Yes, guiding is a lot of work, and yes, there is a certain amount of pressure that goes into getting random people with random abilities to catch fish…at least the way we fish, which is to say strictly casting artificial lures…no bait, no trolling. But, teaching people to not only catch fish, but also to appreciate fishing in general, is why I turned my passion into a job…and now it’s time to do work. Tackle and boat are ready; bring on the anglers…we’ll bring on the fish!
We wrapped up Season Ocho of Fishful Thinker TV and that amazes me. If someone would have told me we would produce and air 104 TV shows in a four year period, starting with no TV experience mind you, I would have called B.S. And not only have we aired them, but a bunch of people have apparently been watching too! Season Nine kicks off in July…thanks for watching, people.
So, there ya have it. A blog is supposed to be random thoughts, right? Well, my mind, at least for today, aims for randomly positive for no other reason than it’s a choice we all have the right to make. My mind is made up…it’s a good day. CL
Ranger D, reporting for duty...

Random and positive works. I'm trying to talk myself out of bailing on work, grabbing the finesse swimbait rod, and throwing some 6 - 7" baits into the chilly waters in search of fish that don't care what the weather is doing. It's random, and I bet I'll feel better after an hour of that "therapy".

Great blog Chad! It's easy to get bogged down in the dreariness of life, thanks for the pick-me-up!

Great looking dog! Hopefully we get to see you mix some fly and spin gear together. Saw that post on Facebook the other day and my brain has really wrapped around it.

Well said FT, there's plenty to worry about in this world we live in, but I'm trying to focus on taking care and appreciate what's around me. Hope Ranger D is doing well. I'm with FishDr, I'm going to start throwing that big swimbait more, worst case, if someone sees me at a distance, they'll think I caught something )

Congrats on the new pup Chad. Also, to keep the positive going, it's currently dumping up here in Estes adding to the 15-24 inches (Depending on where you are) already on the ground. Keep it coming mother nature. I don't mind shoveling at all.

Amen Chad, let it snow! We need a bigger blizzard like the many we have had in the past 100 years. Why would you whine about putting in some effort to complete a mission of gathering for your needs? Check out this link and think about it. There were no snow plows to clear the streets but they managed to live through it. How great is it that we have 4-wheel drives, pneumatic snow tires, xm radio, bumper mounted winches, heated leather seats?? really? Whining?? I am grateful to all of the past generations that through suffering produced all of these things we take for granted.

Ok I am glass half empty guy, I will work on it too Chad, can we have rain instead of snow? Oops you said positive. I am positively looking forward to your electronics class! See you on the water. I hear you can be a bit high strung, I can help you with that (Bernie will vouch for me)! See I can be positive!! LOL!

I live in the foothills at the end of a road with a steep hill. During the storm we had a water heater go out, ran out of propane, delayed a carpet install with the house in disarray. The sun is shinning and I am positive and so must you.
