There are an amazing number of bass and walleye tournaments out there. We don't seem to have quite the interest in competitive fishing in our area for other species, such as catfish, carp, crappie.

http://coloradobassfederation.com/bass-clubs/centenial-bass-club-7/ but notice that there are multiple Front Range clubs through the Federation. Click on "Bass Clubs" to see the six Colorado clubs (including the western slope).
Each club has it's own schedule and there are multiple lone tree tournaments.
Also--I think there is a carp tournament each year on the South Platte (see Barry Reynold's work) plus the pike tournaments each summer up at 11-mile marina. I have also been hearing more about bowfishing tournaments all over the western US.
