The New Colorado Walleye Association
by: Shane Dubois , Wyoming 2/11/2013
I'm sure many of you have heard of the Colorado Walleye Association (CWA) in the past, and might have heard some positive or negative things about the club, or might have thought that it is just for tournament anglers.
This past year the entire board of directors for the CWA has changed hands with an entire new board being appointed. The new CWA President is Justin Crump, Vice President Lonnie Snyder, Treasurer Ray Dieschel, Secretary Ronnie Snyder, Tournament Director Matt Mascarenas, Membership Directors Mitch Peterson and Brad Qualley, and Promotions Director Shane DuBois.
The new board of directors is dedicated to bringing a new face to the club by holding more family and non tournament angler functions, quality tournaments, discounts at businesses and sponsors for CWA members, and releasing a monthly emailed newsletter with tips and tactics for Colorado Walleye fishing. The CWA is offering a one time free newsletter this month to anyone interested. This is a one time email blast, no one will be added to a continuing list unless you like what you see and sign up to be a CWA member, which is $30 a year. When you sign up to be a member you get a free CWA hat, CWA membership card which gives you discounts at local businesses and sponsors of the CWA. If you are interesting in recieving this emailed newsletter please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
for this one time newsletter.
The CWA will be hosting a banquet on March 23rd, 2013 at The Eagles Club on 8800 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO. You do not need to be a member of the CWA to come to the event. There will be a Fajita/Taco Bar provided, and cover to the event is $15 a person or $25 per couple. You can also purchase a $10 unlimted draft beer ticket that comes with a free mug. We will be raffling off a Lowrance HDS 8, with raffle tickets being $10 an entry or 12 for $100. Doors open at 430 PM for the event, and dinner is served at 6. Eric Ewing will be the guest speaker at the event, and the CWA will be hosting a silent auction.
Come check out the new CWA by clicking on the highlighted CWA
that will take you to the new website. The first tournament will be held at Cherry Creek on April 20th-21st. Other lakes this year hosting CWA tournaments are Pueblo Reservoir, Trinidad Reservoir and Lake McConaughy .
The CWA is dedicated to helping the community, its anglers, and the lakes and rivers that support the sport of fishing here in Colorado!
So come check out the new CWA and decide for yourself first hand if it's for you or not!
Feel free to ask any questions you might have!

When you say local businesses do you mean Colorado local or metro area local?

Would join but I think it might turn out like the Colorado bow fishing association. Starts off member friendly , make some great connections but then new comers get left out no invites for open seats on a boat. Or a partnership program for newbies to tournies or that joined the club for comrodarery with fellow anglers to exchange techniques ,new ideas , new tricks, and trips.

Catcherman...both we are working with a few businesses to offer discounts to CWA members, and are trying to include more. Elk, we welcome anyone to fish with us at anytime. We have a few anglers seeking partners for the tournament series, and in our functions if there's room in the boat anyone is welcome to join. We do have several get together s every year to get to know other members and share techniques and tips.

Shane, I believe Dan Swanson will also be speaking at the Spring Banquet. He has a blog on this website too.
Elk, I fished my first walleye tournament in 2000 with the CWA and at that time the boater didn't even know me. We are friends and fished a tournament together recently. Throw your name out there that you need a boater and then take your chances with compatibility.

This is a great group of people and organization. I've been a member since near the time it was formed. You'll learn a lot from other members.

Just to add my .02. Been a member and/or board member since the very early days. You get out of the club what you want. Those that sit in the back and dont engage other members get less. Those that engage in discussion, offer to volunteer, partake in activites get more.

I am a multi-year member. There is a good number of men and women walleye anglers in the group to network with and share ideas about walleye fishing. I've had the pleasure of going out with some of the other members on their boats and them on mine. We share ideas and techniques back and forth. I've had a couple of the members turn me on to laker fihsing which is a lot of fun too. It's easy to network and converse when all of us has the same primary interest...walleye fishing...
