I am Sorry.
by: Tim Emery 8/23/2012
I am sorry! To all FishExplorer.com members. Back in April, I told you I would start recording a podcast again, well that didn’t happen and I apologize. I hope you can forgive me.  No real excuse, just life, 2 young kids, growing business, and a new part time fishing job took up my time this summer. No, I am not going to promise a podcast coming soon, I would like to, if things slowed down, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. If someone wants to start recording a podcast I would be happy to show you how. Just email me. Also, forgive me for not posting much. I will do a better job going forward.

This weekend is the 6th South Platte Pro-Am Carp Slam to raise money for the South Platte River in Denver. Denver Trout Unlimited hosts the event and it has become one of the best fishing events in the country. I had a large part in building the Carp Slam, I ran it for the first 4 years and love everything it has become. This year I will be fishing as a Pro. This is the first year I have participated in the Slam as a competitor and I am ready!   Last year, Denver TU raised over $30,000 for the South Platte. This year their goal is $35,000. All the money goes straight in to the river. I have a personal goal to raise $1,000 this year for the river. If you would like to donate please follow this link CarpSlam. All donations are tax deductible. So far I’m at $400. I could use your help.
A lot of FxR members fish the river and have seen it get better and better. Well, the next few years it will continue to improve. The goal is not to build a trout fishery, although there are some huge trout in the river, the goal is to create a fishery that we can be proud of. Wouldn’t it be great to catch Trout, Smallies, Walleye, Carp, Large Mouth, Blue Gill, Sun Fish and other types of fish right here in Denver?

If you want more info about the Carp Slam please check out www.carpslam.org. The best place to watch the Slam is Mile High Stadium and the area around Mile High Station. Please come join us for a party on Saturday night on the banks of the South Platte. You can buy a ticket on Carpslam for $50. Tickets include heavy apps, drinks and dancing.

My one tip about catching carp in the South Platte is, be very quite and move slowly. The carp know your there. Don’t where bright clothes and use darker fly line. Put the fly right in front of a feeding fish and hold on.

Thanks for being great supporters of FxR. You have all turned Colorado in to one of the best fishing states in the country!
See you on the river or lake.
Tim

It sounds like you are doing good man with the family, a business, and fishing for a living part time.... Good luck on the carp slam and yes that would be cool to have a multi-species great fishery :)
