Early spring is always a bear for me because we're in the middle of major business changes. Consumer show season is winding down, the latest season of Fishful Thinker TV is finally fully produced, the ice/open water transition is done, and we can get serious about the new open water season. Basically, we survived the start of the new year. But first...
Don't forget about the 8th annual Larimer County Fishing Show. This is one of my favorite shows to be involved with because it's all about our local waters - specifically Horsetooth, Carter, Boyd and more. Fishful Thinker guides Dan Swanson and Ronny Castiglioni will be on hand to answer questions, and a bunch of other FxR editors and contributors will be as well. Even Terry Wickstrom will be on hand this year.
I'm especially excited for this year's show because we're holding the first ever Fishful Thinker Accuracy Challenge as part of it. I truly believe that accuracy and line control are critical to catching fish in many situations, and after 7 years of guiding, I think many anglers under-estimate this. Personally, I practice...even after fishing my whole life. If Tiger still goes to the driving range, I should still practice casting.
This is going to be a really fun event...it's free, open to anyone, and you can sign-up at the Expo which is at The Ranch complex near the Budweiser Events Center (9-6 sat, 10-4 sun). Prizes include a St Croix Rage rod, Abu Garcia Orra reel, Cost shades, Berkley NanoFil, and gift certificates to Bullhide 4x4, Henry's Pub, Sports Station and more. Pedersen Toyota in Fort Collins is again a major sponsor of the expo as well. There is even a couple of instant win targets - the Bullhide Bullseye and Pedersen Pitch....hit the bullseye, you win. We'll be offering casting tips and instruction as well.
If you want to gather some great fishing info and have some fun doing it, stop by the expo and say hi. Perhaps win a prize, pick up some casting tips, and generally get your season off to a fun start. Hope to see you there! CL
