Changes and a few more ISE pictures
by: David Coulson 1/13/2012
I fully intended to blog shortly after the International Sportsman’s Expo (ISE). My calendar looked empty and I figured no problem. Uhm, well it turns out s___, er, stuff happens. Work, column Monday, meeting Tuesday, family Wednesday, errands and what not Thursday, and now it’s Friday and I’m not totally sure where the week went. As with years prior, the show was a lot of fun and I only wish I’d taken a bit more time to visit a few more booths, but it’s just as well I didn’t as my wallet would likely have taken a bigger hit than it did. The fur dealer got a few bucks for a fox pelt and several tails. Then I ran into James Emmons, an old friend from Grand Junction, selling, at huge discounts, flies and tying material. Needless to say, he drained my wallet a bit more, as I stocked up on thread and flash-a-bou. My wallet was saved by clock, as I needed to get back to the FxR booth. Can’t imagine how my bank account would have looked if I’d visited everybody. I’ve posted a number of pictures from the show for your enjoyment. There are a goodly number of changes in the works. First, the points system, we’re in the process of revamping it to give greater credit to those who contribute to the site with conditions reports, corrections to lake pages, skippering, lake editors, and more. Points for forum activity will only be awarded for “fins up” given by fellow members. Further, there will be an increasing number of opportunities to put the points to use. Everything should be in place by the end of the month and there will be a page fully explaining the new program. A second change is we’re bringing on a few new bloggers and there are a couple field editors in the works. I’ll introduce them as they are brought on board over the next few weeks. We have two new bloggers starting this week. First is Jen Kugler, who goes by FlyFishilicous. A long time fisher she is relatively new to the world of fly fishing, taking up the sport this last August. When she isn't out tossing a fly, she can be found at the fly tying table creating patterns for her next outing. We expect her writings to follow the style of her other blog Fly Fishilicious is full of quirky attitude, gear reviews and just general shenanigans about her fly fishing adventures. Please help me welcome FlyFishilicous to FishExplorer.com. I’m also pleased to announce another blogger, Jennifer Kalous aka The LadyinPink. I can safely say I’ve known her my entire life. Further, her wanting to blog caught me totally by surprise. Not sure why, as she’s an excellent fisher with good writing skills. But as often as we’ve fish together, truly a life time. You see I was the one to introduce her to the sport; after all she’s my daughter. But until recently she’s never indicated a desire to write about her fishing experiences. I guess featuring her in my blogs and columns stirred up a kindred spirit. When she approached Matt and me, we were both excited about the prospect, especially, given her increased involvement with Fish Explorer on several fronts. Many of you may have noticed at the ISE were she played a big hand in keeping things flowing smoothly at the FxR booth. Further, she’s been helping behind the scenes rolling out new club program to develop a much stronger working relationship with fishing organizations in all four states. I’ll leave it to Jennifer to explain the details down the road. There’s no doubt in my mind she’ll bring a new dimension to the site, and that you’ll find her writing excellent reading. She always strives to do the best she can with any endeavor she takes up, including besting Dad every chance she gets on the water. Please welcome the LadyinPink to our growing family of bloggers.
