January 2, 2010Bob Taylor Memorial Ice Fishing Contest - 7:0 am Antero Reservoir
Bob is back! Denver Water’s Bob Taylor Memorial Ice Fishing Contest will be Jan. 2, 2010, at Antero Reservoir. The event is sponsored by Denver Water, the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Coalition for the Upper South Platte.
There will be a cash prize for the biggest trout (by weight) and for the winner of the “sucker pool” (greatest combined weight), as well as door prizes donated by Bass Pro Shops, Outlaw Bait & Tackle and Play It Again Sports. All proceeds from the contest will be used for future recreational improvements at Antero.
Bob Taylor was Denver Water’s first manager of recreation. A likable, avid year-round fisherman, Bob had an infectious enthusiasm for the outdoors. He was a champion of the quality fishing experience and worked to develop fishery improvements and stocking programs throughout Colorado. He loved Antero Reservoir.
On the day of the contest, the gates at Antero will open at 6 a.m., but no fishing will be allowed and no holes may be drilled until 7 a.m. The weigh-in deadline is 2 p.m. For more information, for full rules and to register, visit www.bobisback.com.

Frank has been fishing all his life (since about 4 years old) and fly fishing primarily for the past 20+ years. He has been tying flies for the last 15 years and enjoys this aspect of this sport, almost as much as the fishing part. In his never ending pursuit to catch anything that swims in the water, he has been trying to tie everything that fish eat, even so much as trying to tie Russian Olive seeds and other odd things for the pursuit of carp. He has tied for TU at the West Denver TU Fly Tying Clinic and has taught several classes to other budding fly tyers as well. He enjoys the teaching part immensely, especially when he can possibly trigger a strike from a young mind and get them as hooked on this sport as he is. “The kids are the future and we adults need to focus more time and effort to teach them well”, is one of his favorite things to say. He also chases fish in the salt but has less time to get after these fish.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - More than 30 non-profit outdoor and sportsmen's groups, government agencies and outdoor-related businesses from across western Colorado will sponsor the 3rd Annual Outdoor Heritage Day in Palisade on Saturday, April 24. The free event began in 2008 from the efforts of Colorado Division of Wildlife officer Frank McGee. McGee became concerned with how little time today's youth spend outdoors and organized the first Outdoor Heritage Day event to get kids and their families outside and experiencing what Colorado can offer.
"There are so many different things locally that families can enjoy," said McGee. "People don't realize what we have within just a short car ride. We want to give families, especially kids, what they need to know to get out and experience the best parts of western Colorado."
Outdoor Heritage Day is free and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at Riverbend Park in Palisade. Activities for school age youth include a fishing clinic, hunting simulator, climbing wall, mountain biking, nature walks, a mobile shooting range and much more. Presentations by outdoor organizations will also be held throughout the day. Lunch and all activities are provided at no cost. Visit www.outdoorheritageday.org for more information and full event schedule.
