Tuolumne
Post By: travler      Posted: 3/28/2012 9:11:24 AM     Points: 0
Anyone have suggestions on fishing the Tuolumne near the Waterford area? I have tried to submit posts before on this but my big fingers must hit the wrong buttons. Anyway I will be accessing a old gravel excavation that is connected to the Tuolumne. Will not be able to use a float tube or flyrod on the first trip or two until I can get the blackberries pruned back. This backwater could have anything that the Tuolumne holds, especially this time of year when the water is still pretty cold. I will probably be targeting bass and strippers on the first trip or two with spinning gear. This location is below the Hickman Bridge so is not restricted to artificals but I will probably use them with barbless anyway. Anybody have any suggestions? Just getting back into fishing since I am retired and am trying to make more time for fun things?

Glad to see you finally posting on the site. Wish I could answer your questions, but that would require a trip out. Might have to do that this fall, as I sure would like to fish a few waters out your way again, especially the Delta and the coast.

Anyway, keep posting.

Have a look at these smallies I caught last weekend. Not bad for the middle of town. [log in for link]

Took me a while. Slow learner I guess. When you come out here I will show you this place, although by then the water will be warmer and the trout will have migrated upstream. That is actually good since one cannot and should not mess with the trout on the Tuolumne. I am actually in Rifle briefly now with daughter Katie and will be heading back to California soon. I have yet to get my boat into shape but it is on the list. Retirement has proven to be busy. travler

Still have not gotten down to that old dregger backwater in the Tuolumne. Got interrupted in my quest by chores and going bait fishing for trout with a local long time retired fellow. It has been a long time since I have been bait fishing in fresh water. We went to Turlock Lake. We did not see anyone else on the Lake. This time of year the Lake is a productive meat hole. The catch is planters but they have been in the lake awhile and are getting fat on what appears to be very small fresh water crustacenes (however that is spelled). They were running 12 to 15+ inches. Dave I showed you the inlet area of this lake when you were here. I need to try it in a float tube and with artificials later on in the year for Largemouth. After the spawn but before the water gets too warm.. But hope to get to the dregger pond soon. I do not see Turlock Lake listed in the group of lakes. How does one go about adding a lake?
