It's a magical time of the year!

Down here for us in South Texas, spring means breakout the big rods, heavy line and your best pair of polorized glasses and hit the water. It has been a great week as clients and I have enjoyed the beautiful weather, and great fishing. During this week we have seen some quality fish paired up and rubbing, as well as had some great sight fishing opportunities from fish already locked on the beds. The full moon this week has them feeling a little love in the air, and fishing will just continue to even better. over the next couple of days the first full wave should move up and lock on, providing anglers an opportunity to take advantage of the crystal clear waters and do a little sight fishing themselves. I find that this time of the year is a great time to introduce kids into bass fishing as they not only have a higher chance of catching fish but an opportunity for young anglers to observe bass behaviors in the wild (instead of an aquarium), how the fish react to the baits, spawning rituals, and most importantly it is a great time to improve a young anglers feel. I have found that a great way to teach a young angler a better feel for soft plastic baits is to show them the fish on the bed so they know it's there, place the bait on the bed and then have them close there eyes and rely on feel to know when to set the hook. I believe bec ause they have seen the fish and know it is there for sure they are more apt to open there minds and trust there instincs on what they feel and when to set the hook. This will make them better fisherman for the upcoming summer when alot of anglers rely on soft plastics to produce there fish.
So if you have a young angler in your family or know one who likes to fish, invite them out and take advantage of this magical time of the year to turn them into bass fisherman for life!
