We are in such a technical world, and with that we are blessed to have a wide range of electronics to use while we are in the field. If your an angler, hunter, or outdoor enthusiast that is not using these apps, you are truly missing out.
Why waste your time driving to your favorite hole on days that are totally blown out? Believe it or not, there are still old school guys out there that watch the weather forecast before making their way out and thats it.
If your a smart phone holder, than you have no excuse for not being ready for the best chance at catching fish any day of the week. Ahead are 4 apps that you should have and use on a regular basis, I consider these to be more important than anything else when I am planning a fishing trip because these combined decide whether I head out.
1. Lunar fish chart - I use an iphone and with that obviously itunes apps. The one i have is isolunar, this one cost about $4 when i got it a year ago and I have never had any problems with it. It has a ton of features that allow you to enter whatever location you want to go, then it forecasts the moon changes and calculates them to correspond with fish activity. There are a hand full of these apps out there and if you do not have one of them, your really missing out.
2. Weather - Any weather app will do, I have three of them on my phone. I like to cross check each to compare them for a wider view of what could be coming my way. Some of my favorites are the ever popular Weather Channel app, and a new one called ScoutLook. ScoutLook is awesome for its additional hinting and fishing related weather forecasts, to include lunar activity!
3. Fishing Log - WFN makes a pretty cool app that will log your trips. You can add photos of that days catches and get as detailed as your want or you can just enter the photo itself. It allows you to not only log trips but it will also pinpoint your location while fishing with a GPS and serves as a perfect reference for where you were when you caught that monster fish.
4. Tides - This goes for the salt water anglers, tides are the salt water equivalent of lunar activity. Although lunar activity plays just as much of a role on the ocean (if not more) as it does a lake, tides are the other half of the picture. Your tide chart is the yin to the lunar chart yang. Using one without the other leaves a chance to miss key factors concerning your day on the water. Again itunes offers a wide range of tide apps, I tend to go with apps that are free when I can.
